MEET OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS (TZAHAL SHALOM OF NORTHERN WESTCHESTER)
JOHN GOLDENBERG lives in Chappaqua with his wife Debbie & their two sons, Zach and Ben. John manages a private investment fund. Prior to managing this fund & co-managing a prior fund, John practiced law in New York City. The Goldenbergs visited Israel at the time of Zach’s Bar Mitzvah. John’s passion for Israel & Tzahal Shalom intensifed when he joined his neighbor for a dinner with 2 IDF soldiers and the following year the Goldenbergs had the privilege of hosting a soldier in their own home. John is currently the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
BART GOLDSTEIN lives in Chappaqua with his wife Robin and two children, Noah and Georgia. He is a corporate attorney for Empire State Realty Trust and has worked in-house with companies including Revlon and MasterCard, and previously at the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. The Goldsteins have served as host and buddy families for the Tzahal Shalom program and Robin continues in her third year as a Tzahal Shalom Program Director. Everybody in the family feels especially touched and enriched by the unique connections they have developed with Israel through the IDF soldiers that join our community every Fall.
JEFF TAUB is an attorney in private practice in Manhattan focusing on real estate and corporate transactions and litigation. In addition, Mr. Taub is a founder and principle of Taub & Posman Associates, LLC, a Professional Office Suite company located in midtown Manhattan. Mr. Taub earned a B.A. from Hobart College and a J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University. Mr. Taub, his wife Nancy, and their two children, Andrew and Lauren, hosted an Israeli soldier through the Tzahal Shalom program in 2013 cementing their connection to Israel, the IDF and Tzahal Shalom. Mr. Taub and his family reside in Pleasantville, New York.
ANITA GREENWALD is a Co-Founder (2006) and one of the original Co-Directors (2006-2014) of Tzahal Shalom of Northern Westchester. The impact of Tzahal Shalom is one of the things she is most proud of. Before and during Tzahal Shalom, Anita started and ran UJA Federation of NY's Connect to Care program for Westchester County (2009-2014) Before that she managed and was a producer at her own recruiting firm Concorde Staffing, which her husband, Rich, took over in 1994. Both of Anita's parents were Holocaust survivors & she credits them with instilling a passion for Israel and for making a difference. Anita and Rich live in Armonk and have four children, Jessie, Zach, Hannah and Lucy.
MICHELE KRAUSHAAR co-founded Tzahal Shalom in 2006 creating an organization with a mission to connect the Northern Westchester community to Israel. She has been a passionate co-director and cheerleader for the program ever since. It has been successful beyond anything she had imagined and continues to be a big part of her life. Additionally, Michele is a freelance graphic designer specializing in typographically driven design. In the summer months, Michele and her husband Judah are involved in all aspects of agriculture at their working farm in Dutchess County, Meadowland Farm. Michele and Judah are avid supporters of Israel and travel there frequently to visit friends & Tzahal Shalom alumni. They have three grown children, Liana, Elias and Sofia.
RANDI KREISLER has been involved with Tzahal Shalom beginning 2008. Randi and her family were fortunate to host a soldier and had an incredible ten days getting to know him. They are still in touch with him today. Over the years she has traveled back to Israel and always enjoys getting together with soldiers we have met through Tzahal Shalom. In 2009, Randi joined to help run the program. Over the past six years, she has been involved in all aspects of running Tzahal Shalom. Randi has met an incredible group of people who have embraced the program and most importantly, has been inspired by Anita and Michele and the vision they had to bring Tzahal Shalom to our community. Randi, her husband Dan and three children live in Chappaqua.
LIZ BARNETT has been involved with Tzahal Shalom since 2009 and her family was transformed when they hosted an IDF soldier in 2012. After a 25-year career in technology consulting, Liz transitioned to work exclusively with nonprofit organizations, helping with their communications and marketing needs by leveraging technology. She is completing a MSW degree at NYU and works as an oncology social work intern. Liz lives in Bedford with her husband and two children. She also serves on the Board of Directors for URJ Eisner and Crane Lake Camps and has volunteered with a number of Jewish organizations including UJA-Federation, WJCS, and her synagogue.
LISA UNGER joins the Board following two years as Tzahal Shalom Program Director. She is very excited to continue her work on the board expanding Tzahal in other communities. Lisa worked for 12 years as an investment banker at JP Morgan and at UBS. She specialized in trading, operations and risk management. Since leaving the banking world she has been teaching swimming part-time at camps, clubs & privately. Lisa is in the process of completing her Master of Social Work (MSW). Lisa and husband Mark live in Armonk where they have been active residents of the Northern Westchester community for nearly 20 years. They have three beautiful children, Sarah, Kyle and Dean. Lisa has close ties to Israel and a large extended family living there as well. Tzahal Shalom has been an inspiration and major impact on all of their lives.
GABY GOLOD GREENWALD lives in Pleasantville with her husband and son. She recognizes that we live in an interconnected world. Being involved with Tzahal Shalom gives her the opportunity to give back to the local community and the Israeli community at the same time. This connection also allows her to promote the strategic importance of Israel and explain why it is so important to support active duty military personal as they protect Israel from outside forces. She is hopeful that her volunteer work & advocacy of Israel will be an inspiration to her son as he defines his role in the world. The Greenwald’s were proud hosts of Daniel, a soldier during Tzahal Shalom 2014.
MINDY UNGER is active member of the philanthropic community. She is currently the Chair of the IPPF Fundraising and Awareness Committees. She serves on the Board for UJA's Northern Westchester Women's Philanthropy Division and she is a founding member of the Neshamot Fund in Westchester. She serves on the Annual Fund Committee for Bet Torah as well as the committee for Chappaqua's Cure in Our Lifetime. Mindy has been involved with Tzahal Shalom since its inception and was fortunate to host a soldier in the first year (2006). Hosting a soldier prompted her and her family to visit Israel twice since inception and she is passionate about the program. Mindy and her children Ali, Jason and Brian live in Chappaqua.
ALAN TANTLEFF is a Sr Managing Director in the New York office of FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice where he leads the company’s Hospitality, Gaming and Leisure practice. Alan is a respected hospitality industry and structured finance professional with 25 years of diverse, hands-on experience in areas of hotel and casino investment and development. He is a twelve year resident of Westchester County, where he lives with his wife and three teenage daughters. The Tantleffs have had the pleasure of being a “buddy family” and a "host family" and look forward to continued involvement in Tzahal Shalom.
LENI GOLDSTEIN lives in Chappaqua, NY with her husband Mitch and three children- Alyx, Seth and Hayden. She is a licensed clinical psychologist who has taken off some time to raise her children but is looking forward to practicing again in the near future. Leni and her family were both buddy and host to two IDF soldiers in the past year and truly enjoyed the life-changing experiences. They are planning on visiting their new Israeli families soon. Israel has played an important role in their lives as it is where their son became a Bar Mitzvah in 2014, where Mitch became a Bar Mitzvah many years ago and is also where Leni and Mitch got engaged.
LARRY YAVNER and his wife Alyssa and their two children, Jesse and Mac make their home in Chappaqua, NY. Larry is the Managing Partner of LBY Partners, an investment firm managed locally out of Pleasantville, NY and focused on making secured loans and other private investments. Larry and his family were introduced to Tzahal Shalom in 2012 when they had the opportunity to hear the stories of three soldiers during a Shabbat service. Since then, Larry and his family have committed themselves to the Tzahal Shalom programs and were thrilled to host a 2015 delegate. The program has and will continue to connect the Yavner family to incredible young men and women from the IDF, Israel and local community members.
WHO WE ARE
The Tzahal Shalom program was started in 2006 by Anita Greenwald and Michele Kraushaar as a way of connecting the Northern Westchester community with Israel. Randi Kreisler joined in 2009 and together they managed every aspect of the program, connecting over 1500 people every year to IDF soldiers and Israel. Anita, Michele and Randi continue on as Executive Directors and the day-to-day operation of the 10 day program is organized by community Program Co-Directors.
In 2017, Tzahal Shalom of Northern Westchester helped establish a new program welcoming soldiers into the Rivertowns (Mid-Westchester) community. For 10 days in April, Rivertowns welcomes 5 soldiers/reservists into their community. Tzahal Shalom of the Rivertowns is chaired by Laurie Davidowitz and Jen Schwartz.
In 2015, Tzahal Shalom of Northern Westchester created a Board of Directors (see below) to oversee the growth and sustainability of the program as it continues to move forward. Tzahal Shalom of Northern Westchester Incorporated is a recognized 501c3 organization.
